Sunday Salon: Happy Lunar New Year of the Dragon

The Sunday Salon.comWelcome to the Sunday Salon. It's the Lunar New Year, Spring Festival, Chinese New Year of the Water Dragon, which begins tomorrow, Jan. 23! Look for excitement and good fortune this year, according to the fortune tellers.

One custom is to pay all your bills, clean your house, throw away anything that is broken, and fulfill your obligations before the new year sets in. I've been doing new and overdue book reviews like crazy, not that many really, but a lot in one week for  me.  Here are the past week's:
Oath of Office by Michael Palmer

The Barbary Dogs: A Mystery by Cynthia Robinson

Breakthrough: the 5 Living Principles to Defeat Stress, Look Great, & Find Total Well-Being by Shea Vaughn

Living Fully by Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche, Buddhism and philosophy

My Evangeline by Heidi Radford Legg, literary fiction
plus posted an interview with the author of The Dark Rose, Erin Kelly.

I have slowed down on accepting new books for review, as I hope to finish the ones I now have first!

What are you planning for the rest of the year?

  1. I hadn't realized it was the Lunar New Year tomorrow. I'm trying to catch up on reading from my own shelves and so have taken a break from review copies for a while.

    1. I can understand your wanting to read books from your shelves. We'll see what the new lunar year brings -tradition says it will be full of drama, and I hope it will be good drama!

  2. yes, my coworker is Chinese and has been telling me all about the celebrations they will be participating in. She said, every Chinese mom wants to have a child born in the "year of the dragon".

  4. :-) It is fun to plan what to do or not do in the coming year. I have high hopes and big plans for this year. Mostly, though, I hope it's less stressful and more fun. No problem, right? :-) Happy Sunday Salon!!

  5. I did a massive clean up last week and paid all due bills yesterday on the eve of the new year here, then had a wee feast with the hubby. Here in Taiwan the streets are as quiet as the apocolypse today. Walking the dog this morning was a kind of odd experience - peaceful, nice but sort of unsettling too. It's usually so buzzing with life around the neighborhood!

Hope that the Year of the Dragon is good to you!

  7. I am doing some reorganizing and consolidation of the clutter around my house, and this is the year that I request less books, and finally start reading from my stacks. Lord knows there are plenty of them!
