Sunday Salon: Reading Three Books At The Same Time

Welcome to the Sunday Salon where bloggers share their reading each week.Visit The Sunday Post hosted by The Caffeinated Bookreviewer; Also visit It's Monday: What Are You Reading hosted by Book Journey

I'm reading three books at the moment: a literary novel set in India,  The Folded Earth by A. Roy; Season of the Dragonflies by Sarah Creech, a book that includes some magical elements; and a mystery set in Arizona, Desert Rage by Betty Webb.

.Desert Rage is interesting because the two teenagers accused of killing a couple and their young son are not the type to commit this kind of crime. Lena Jones is asked to find out the truth, which is complicated by themes such as surrogate egg donors, the resulting children, and the secrecy necessarily involved. I have just started the book and am curious about this involved plot.

Why read three books at once? I pick up a book depending on my mood and also depending on where I am in the house. One book may be in the living room, another in the kitchen, and a third may be in a bedroom.  A book per room. Why not? Do you find yourself doing this sometimes?

  1. I usually have two books going simultaneously. Though it does not always work out this way, I think that one fiction and one non - fiction book work really well together.

  2. Like Brian, if I do have more than one book going at a time, I have a fiction and a non-fiction book. Usually the non-fiction is something that I take my time with and the fiction, not so much, that it might become another book within a few days.

  3. I am a simultaneous reader as well. I have three on the go at the moment too. :-) It only gets hard when they are too similar in content to keep straight. Then I have to fix the situation, and quick!

  4. I haven't read more than one book at a time in a while...that works for me if the books are entirely different genres. Yours sound really tempting! Enjoy.

  5. I can read two books at one time if they are from different genres. Sometimes it helps if one is a print book and one an e-book. More than two means one has been started and put on my side table to be picked up after I finish one of the others. Season of the Dragonflies sounds good!

  7. I couldn't read three books at once I'd get confused, lol. I'm a one at a time girl. :)

  8. I'm reading about 7 books right now. Some are collections so it's not like I'm leaving a story hanging. Sometimes I just need to get my brain kick started and grab whichever is closest and begin. All of the ones I'm reading now are quite good, so I'm lucky there.

  9. Two books at once is usually my limit (one in print and one on audio), but every so often I wind up with three. Any more just stresses me out ;-)

  10. I try to read one at a time although lately I've found myself reading two occasionally. One book I was almost done with got lost somehow, and I couldn't find it so started something else! Then the other book showed up again (how did it get there??) and now I have to finish it. LOL.

  11. I do the same thing with picking up books or I periodically leave it somewhere and have to pick up another book. Desert Rage sounds interesting. I hope you do a full review on it. I'd love to see your thoughts for this one. Have a great week!

  12. I usually read one book at a time. If I am uncertain about what I want to read, I'll read a little from a variety of books. Have a great week.

  13. I've tried reading more than one book and I find that I always gravitate toward the one that is most compelling.

  14. I always admire people who can read multiple books at one time - I'm definitely not one of them! I can read one and listen to another, but that's about it...

  15. I prefer reading one book at a time, but sometimes I end up with a couple of them going at once. Sometimes I'm reading a print book, but I can't sleep. Since I don't want to disturb my husband with a light, I'll read something else on my Kindle. Then, I also have something different on audio for when I'm in the car. So, it does happen but I do prefer just reading one at a time. Otherwise I get confused. LOL

    Have a great week!

  16. Harvee, usually the most I will read "at the same time" is two books, and they have to be different genres. But I applaud your ability to "juggle" three books at once! That takes talent. :) :) :)

  17. I do read a couple of books at the same time and listen to three audios. Amazingly, I can keep them all straight.
