Sunday Salon: Island Novels

Welcome to the Sunday Salon where bloggers share their reading each week. Visit The Sunday Post hosted by The Caffeinated Bookreviewer.
Also visit Mailbox Monday, and It's Monday, What Are You Reading? hosted by Book Date.

Now I can read comfortably in bed! Bought myself an Easter present, in advance - a new bed with motorized base that allows me to raise to sit up mode and raise legs to comfort mode. Can't wait for delivery! Maybe I'll stay in bed all day (the first day, that is).

Here are two new books for April, both set on islands:

A Man of Genius, a gothic novel by Janet Todd, to be released April 12, 2016 by Bitter lemon Press

"A quirky, darkly mischievous novel about love, obsession and the burden of charisma, played out against the backdrop of Venice's watery, decadent glory." Sarah Dunant

‘A mesmerizing story of love and obsession in nineteenth century Venice: dark and utterly compelling." Natasha Solomons

Sounds brooding and fit for Venice!

Braking for Bodies: A Cycle Path Mystery by Duffy Brown, to be released April 5, 2016 by Berkley

Moving from Los Angeles to picturesque Mackinac Island  in Upper Michigan to work in a bike shop, Evie knows it’s the best decision she’s ever made.

“Sparkling dialogue, an unforgettable island setting, and all the charm a cozy mystery fan would want.”—Ellery Adams, New York Times bestselling author of the Books by the Bay Mysteries

A book I won from Shelf Awareness - The Underdogs!
The Underdogs Children, Dogs, and the Power of Unconditional Love by Melissa Fay Greene, to be released May 17, 2016 by Ecco.
"...a profound and surprising account of dogs on the front lines of rescuing both children and adults from the trenches of grief, emotional, physical, and cognitive disability, and post-traumatic stress disorder."

What's on your reading chair/bed this week?

  1. ooh, the new bed sounds wonderful!!!! I am jealous! And Man of Genius sounds good too! Love and obsession , at least reading about them, is usually great! Of course Love and Obsession might be how you feel about your new bed too!! Enjoy your bed and books and Happy Easter!

  2. Underdogs intrigues. We seem to be learning more and more about the amazing power of animals. Thanks for sharing it!

  3. I've never been one much for reading in bed, BUT your bed sounds like it will be wonderful and just what you need. Hope you enjoy it.

  4. All of these recommendations sound wonderful, but I absolutely MUST read A Man of Genius!! Historical - Gothic - Venice.... those are my hot buttons :)

  5. Oh, I want that bed! I'm always having to shift my pillows and bolster around, and still don't feel quite comfortable. Enjoy!

Braking for Bodies looks very good. Enjoy! Here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

  6. If I read in bed I fall asleep, but it sounds nice! A book set in Venice sounds nice, and that cozy caught my eye. I've been to Mackinac Island quite a bit so very curious about that one! Plus an Ellery adams blurb. I may have to get that one.

  7. Let's see, I am currently working on the classic: THE AGE OF INNOCENCE and the audiobook GIRL WAITS WITH GUN. So far so good on both.
    My Sunday Salon:

  8. I want a bed like that! I'm looking forward to reading The Underdogs.

  9. Your new bed sounds great. I don't know if one day of staying in bed would be enough for me. I'm curious about Braking for Bodies and hope you enjoy it. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  10. I'll take the book not the bed.I really like the one about Venice.

  11. The Underdogs looks like an interesting book! Here's what's on my list this week:

  12. Ooh I always wanted one of those beds-- enjoy it! And A Man of Genius sounds good, and as a dog lover the dog book also would make for good reading! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  13. Sounds like a fantastic bed! Enjoy your new books :)

  14. Your new bed sounds like one of the best treats you could receive for Easter!

  15. I want your bed! I've been trying to talk my husband into one just like it. Happy reading.

  16. I received A Man of Genius too.

I hope I feel better soon so I can get some reading done. Been in bed for two days.

Have a great rest of the week.
