Sunday Salon: Reading about Provence, and Love in the Time of Cholera

Murder in Aix (Maggie Newberry Mysteries, #5)

Murder in Aix, 2013 publication, Kindle edition

I am now on #5 of the Maggie Newberry Mystery series

Murder in Aix,

set in the south of France. Maggie's husband is a vineyard owner and a chef and she has become a writer in addition to being an amateur sleuth. I love the settings of the books, which includes her husband's house and vineyard in a small Provence village. There are 17 books in the series. I'm on the 5th.

The only other mystery series I've followed and read faithfully are by Swedish writer, Viveca Sten, and British writer, Elly Griffiths.  And of course, North America's Louise Penney. Look them up!

These and other books should keep me occupied during my social distancing during the time of coronavirus. By the way, I'm also reading

Love in the Time of Cholera
Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez,  published 2003, set in Colombia, South America at the turn of the 19thth century.

A love story like no other, they say, made more poignant because of the dire circumstances.

What books have you chosen to read?

  1. I'm trying to read fiction, and light fiction at that. Nonfiction is too grueling for me right now. I've just started Rules of Civility and Migrations.

  2. I'm also choosing fiction -- YA seems to be about as much as I can handle. Currently, that's Palace of Stone, the second book in the Princess Academy series by Shannon Hale.

  3. I'm reading some fiction and some NF - mostly on audio lately. Trying to walk outdoors more as the weather has been nice and of course, the fresh air is good for us.

    Have a good week.

  6. I'm finding it s little difficult to maintain much focus right now, so in a time when I should be able to finish more books, I'm actually not. I do appreciate having more time to work on reviews and the blog.

    Have a great week.

  7. Murder in Aix looks like a good one to try when in the France mood. I'm currently reading and enjoying a mystery set in Sweden by Alexander McCall Smith, The Department of Sensitive Crimes.

  8. I'm deep into listening to the audiobooks for a favorite science fiction series. It has been nicely distracting. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  10. The Maggie Newberry series sounds great. I will definitely pursue immediately. Hoping that the first book in the series might be inexpensive, as is so often the case. The premise sounds very enticing!
