French Windows by Antoine Laurain, publication June 25, 2024 by Gallic Books

I was intrigued by the stories in French Windows, written by Nathalia about her neighbors in the building across the street. She is a photographer who says she witnessed a murder there, in the style of the well known suspense movie, Rear Window. But her first story, told to her therapist, made me wonder how she could know so much just from observing from her window? I'll have to finish the novel and read the other four stories about her neighbors to get the full picture.
Description:
Antoine Laurain’s new novel of intrigue, murder and neighbourly curiosity .... Nathalia, a young photographer, has been seeing a therapist. Having accidentally photographed a murder, she finds that she can no longer do her job. Instead, Doctor Faber suggests that she write about the neighbours she idly observes in the building across the street.
But as these written snapshots become increasingly detailed, he starts to wonder how she can possibly know so much about them. With each session, Doctor Faber and his mysterious patient will get closer and closer to the truth.
Bestselling author Antoine Laurain serves up a dose of suspense and intrigue in Rear Window fashion, with a Parisian heart

Description:
October 1944, in the Republic of Salò, a German puppet state in the north of Italy and the last fascist stronghold in the country. Transferred to the town of Salò on Lake Garda, Wehrmacht colonel Martin Bora must investigate the theft of a precious painting of Venus by Titian. While Bora’s inquiry proceeds among many difficulties, discovering three dead bodies throws an even more sinister light on the scene.
Caught in an unforeseeable web of events, hounded by the Gestapo (for years at his heels on the charge of anti-Nazi activities), hopelessly in love with an enigmatic, real-flesh “Venus,” Bora must resort to all his courage and ability – not only to solve the mystery and expose the perpetrator, but also, in a breathtaking crescendo, to try to save himself from the firing squad, and secure an unlikely way out...
These are my new books this week. What are you reading/watching this week?
Intriguing but to get to all the books difficult.
ReplyDeleteYes. I've given up trying to read by date of publication. Now I read according to my mood, and recently I've been watching tv movies and dramas. Have a good week.
DeleteSounds interesting! Rear Window is a favorite of mine -- it would be so on the interests of the plot alone, but add Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly?
ReplyDeleteI've watched the movie several times and am intrigued by how this book French Windows matches and also departs from the movie plot.
DeleteFrench Windows sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

I hope you enjoy these. I look forward to your reviews.
ReplyDeleteBoth sound interesting. Thanks for sharing them!
ReplyDeleteNow I want to know more about French Windows. I loved the concept in Rear Window.
ReplyDeleteThe author has developed the plot into something even more convoluted!
DeleteI hope you enjoy these books Harvee!
ReplyDeleteI hope to get to them soon. They are paper books and I read mostly ebooks, but in the bright daylight I can get these done!
DeleteThese both sound really good. I loved visiting Salo when we stayed on Lake Garda once and I always love books set in places where I've been. I hope you enjoy both of these.
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence you visited Salo!
DeleteI always enjoy the books by Antoine Laurain---a French setting and a light story. I definitely plan to read this new one this summer. It will be interesting to see how the author does with writing intrigue.
ReplyDeleteThe setting for The Venus of Salo sounds compelling.
I haven't read Laurain's other books, but now I'm interested.
DeleteI dropped in an extra book last week, so I've only just started 'The Road to Wigan Pier' by George Orwell. Next up will be 'Ghosts of Empire' by George Mann.
ReplyDeleteFrench Windows sounds good! Rear Window is one of those movies that is so well done I never remember what happens no matter how many times I've seen it. It gets me every time!
ReplyDeleteBoth of those sound great to me, very different as they are. I'll have to take a look. Right now the book I'm spending the most time with is one called Sociopath by Patric Gagne. It's a memoir in which the author recounts her life from her earliest memories to the present and explains what she has learned about sociopathy. She is brilliant at explaining herself, her motivations, and what causes her to do things that are, at the very least, borderline criminal. It's fascinating.
ReplyDeleteWow! I'll have to look this one up.
DeleteFrench Windows looks fantastic! I'm going to have to get ahold of that one.
ReplyDeleteFrench Windows looks great, I will have to find a copy!
ReplyDeleteRear Window is one of my favorite movies!
