Dog Books: Sunday Salon

 Dog Books

I am into a few other books, nonfiction, but am not ready to post about them as yet. So here is something else to think about for now - the value of pets, notably dogs, stuffed or otherwise.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the following ARCs.

Description: When an unfortunate (and literal) run-in with Andrew’s lawless dog leaves Chelsea with a bum wrist, the two strike a deal: Andrew will help Chelsea rehab the injury if she’ll work with him to train his adorably uncivilized boxer.

Their typical bickering soon turns to bantering, and Chelsea finds herself inexplicably drawn to the man she thought she had nothing in common with

The Second-Smartest Dog That Ever Lived

I am a dog but I do not die at the end of this book. Who else could have written it?

Full of imagination and humor, The Second-Smartest Dog That Ever Lived is a dog book like no other, with a canine narrator who questions the value of human society, and a dog’s place within it.

Description: A stray dog leads bookseller Penelope McClure and her gumshoe ghost on a chase for a clever killer

Description: Told through the eyes of a very grumpy yet lovable mutt, a funny and touching tale of aging, death, friendship, and life that proves sometimes a dog's story is the most human of all.

Description: the title novella and three short stories,
People Who Talk to Stuffed Animals Are Nice, sensitively explores gender, friendship, romance, love, human interaction and its absence, and how a misogynistic society limits women and men.

Re stuffed animals, I offered the wrong toys to my kids when they were quite young. I kept giving one stuffed toys, which he ignored. It was the other son who liked them. Who would have guessed? Which one would like cuddly stuff? I guessed wrong.

What are you reading/watching this week?

  1. I went through a period years ago when I enjoyed reading books that featured dogs. I guess my favorite from that time was Jack London's "Call of the Wild." I don't seek out such books any more, but dogs can often be interesting actors in a book's action.

  2. There are so many I would love, dog stories always appeal to me.

  3. Animal stories seem to be one of those genres that everyone loves to read about. Dogs, in particular, are assuming a larger and larger role in our society, and I can see that dog books will be more and more popular in the future.

  4. Love the dog theme. Victoria Schade's books are good so I'd read Unleashed Holiday.

  13. I love books about dogs that don't die in the end! I love books about dogs, period, but the ones that die in the end breaks my heart and I just rather be happy reading about dogs that live!

  14. These all sound fun! Books involving dogs always make me a bit nervous because I don't handle animals in peril well so the beginning of The Second Smartest Dog That Ever Lived made me smile. I read the Cleo Coyle book soon after it came out and enjoyed it and Unleashed Holiday looks so cute! I hope you're having a great week and happy reading!

  15. I love animals in books (preferably not ones in which they get hurt or killed) and these all sound like fun reads! I really like the sound of People Who Talk to Stuffed Animals and will have to check that out. I hope you are having a great week!

  16. I tend to be a cat person, but some of these dog books look really fun, especially Unleashed Holiday. And I always appreciate a book that tells me upfront that the animal doesn't die.

  17. Dogs in stories can really add a lot. I am mostly a cat person, but I like reading about most animals in books.
