Sunday Salon: No More ARCs?

The Sunday Salon.com

Welcome to the Sunday Salon!

My new resolution for fall: I'll not be acccepting any ARCs or new books for review (unless they are really exceptional and impossible to resist)! I am feeling very guilty about my long list of books that have yet to be read and reviewed, so I'm setting aside time for them.

Queen of the Night: A Novel of SuspenseStork Raving Mad: A Meg Langslow Mystery (Meg Langslow Mysteries)Of course, library books always intrude inbetween. For instance, I just picked up new books by Donna Andrews and J.A. Jance, mystery writers. Couldn't resist those. Andrews writes comedy mysteries; Jance is a queen of thrillers. Can't wait to get to hers.

The past month and a half has been very hectic, with visitors and family gatherings, a funeral, and more. My time on the blog has been limited, and I'm glad to be able to get in this Sunday Salon! I've been getting a few books in, though I haven't had time to review them.

What have you been up to this past week?

  1. Harvee....I was thinking of writing the same thing about ARCs today, but decided to wait until Jan. 1....LOL

    OVERWHELMING indeed.

  2. Oh my gosh! Me too! I am trying to limit myself to one or two publishers whose works I really enjoy. The piles of books I own will never get read if I don't stop accepting. I meant to do this all year, but well.....
ENjoy this last week of summer and sorry to hear about the funeral too. Take care.

  3. I have stopped accepting ARCs too unless they are really exceptional. I just feel like I am always behind and I can't take the extra obligation!

  4. I don't know those two mystery authors - thanks for the tip :)

  5. Time does fly by when you have so many wonderful books to read and life gets in the way. I have J.A. Jance's book to read. It does look intriguing. I love Donna Andrews' series. It's always a fun read.

  6. This has been a hectic week for me too. Just finished a book this morning and hope to review it soon. Two others are waiting as is my MS. Have a great week.

  7. I've been selective lately, choosing to stick, mainly, to library books. So much more enjoyable!

I finished Three Musketeers and that's the subject of my Sunday Salon. Hope you will stop by.

  8. I totally understand what you mean about ARCs. I have been a lot more selective with what I've accepted for review in the past few months and I just got the last book I was obligated to review done this past week. I have so many of my own books that I want to read and review plus a ton I want to borrow from the library. It will be nice being able to choose what I'm in the mood for rather than what is next in the review pile.

  9. I'm going to have to do that, too. For one thing, after I'm finished with ARCs, I just want to move them along. They're taking up space!

    Hang in there, Harvee.

  10. Good for you to take some time and halt ARCs -- I am also worried about my upcoming schedule! How do we all find the time to do a regular day job and then read and then write on top of that! Argh! :)

I've been very lazy while on vacation in Boston this week -- my in-laws own a yacht that they schedule for private and corporate charters and oh my...I got to be lazy! So lazy that I read nothing this week and decided to just post about the boat that I was on. Ahh...I wish I could be back on it!!

  11. I haven't accepting too many ARCs in the past year. They bring me too much stress!
